All three of Wellington's ultra-modern schools are among the top in the district for student performance in academics and sports.
Wellington Middle School Awarded the Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award 2013-2014
Wellington Middle School received the Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award for sustained extremely high academic growth! The Colorado Department of Education announced on 12/03/13 that several schools in Colorado have been recognized with the "Governor's Distinguished Improvement Award" and the John Irwin Schools of Excellence Awards. Governor John Hickenlooper said, "The state is proud to recognize the hard work and dedication demonstrated by the staff and students at these schools."
The Colorado Governor's Distinguised Improvement Award recognized the top eight percent of public schools that demonstrate the highest rates of student longitudinal growth, as measured by the Colorado Growth Model. "These schools and communities are putting in the extra effort...they are making a difference for students," said the Colorado Associate Commissioner. "We celebrate your contributions and thank you for setting a great example for other schools." Nine PSD schools were selected for the Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement awards, which are given to schools that demonstrate excellent student growth. On the school performance framework used by the state to evaluate schools, these schools "exceed" expectations on the indicator related to longitudinal academic growth over three years.
PSD schools selected for the 2013 Colorado Governor's Distinguished Improvement Awards are: Bethke Elementary School, Harris Bilingual Elementary School, Liberty Common Charter School, Lopez Elementary School, O'Dea Elementary School, Traut Core Knowledge Elementary School, Wellington Middle School, Werner Elementary School, and Zach Core Knowledge Elementary School.
